GERHART 5TH AT LAKE ERIE

The BGR Team made a trip to one of their favorites tracks on the circuit in Lake Erie, Pa. BGR drivers Bobby Gerhart in the Lucas Oil Chevrolet and Clair Zimmermann in the John H. Meyers Chevrolet qualified 12th and 14th respectively. With the temperatures in the low 70's by race time, the field was set for the 200 at Lake Erie Speedway.

Bobby was on the move by lap 1 moving up to 9th and looking strong. The LUCAS OIL CHEVROLET was really hooked up as Bobby moved in to 6th by lap 55. A caution flew on lap 62, and the BGR crew elected to pit for right side tires. After a good stop by the team, Bobby restarted 15th at the tail end of the field and was quickly on the move back to the front. The field remained under the green until lap 125 when Bobby moved into 5th. Caution flew at 128 and all of the leaders headed to the pits for service. The BGR Team changed right side tires again, came back in next lap for lefts and was set to go to the end. The car seemed to get loose from this point as Bobby drove hard resulting in a 5th place finish.

Clair Zimmermann in the JOHN H MEYERS Chevrolet ran in the top 20 all night and appeared to be headed for a top 15 finish until brake trouble ended his great run on lap 181. Tough break for Clair and the BGR # 7 team.

Lake Erie marked the return of veteran tire carrier E S Root to pit crew duty for the BGR Team. E S naturally performed flawlessly the entire evening going over the wall for the 5 & 7 BGR Teams. Congratulations to the BGR Team for a great effort at Lake Erie.
